Blazing the Trail of Character...One Hoof-print at a Time

an Equine Assisted Learning group program

“Character, not circumstance, makes the person.”
Booker T. Washington

"Blazing the Trail of Character" is a an innovative program which addresses the need for character development/life skills that both educates youth on charter concepts and teaches them how to implement them into their daily behaviors.   We have piloted this program with amazing results of a 92% increase in positive behaviors.  As a result of this positive outcome area schools and youth service organizations are excited to have the opportunity to take advantage of this highly successful and innovative program.

Our program
combines hands-on activities with horses and six character development concepts (hoof-prints). Clients are able to practice the six character development concepts, in a manner that brings these words from an idea to concrete behaviors that they can practice and master.

The six character concepts (hoof-prints) are based on the curriculum
"Six Pillars of Character":
  • Trustworthiness
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Fairness
  • Caring
  • Citizenship

Blazing the Trail of Character allows our staff to be proactive in turning character development concepts into everyday behaviors.
Participants will develop important character concepts, and social skills that build healthy behaviors and core values.

Skills developed during the 12 week program instill values such as:

  • Integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness
  • Respect
  • Problem solving and creative thinking skills
  • Leadership and healthy relationship skills
  • Imagination
  • Citizenship
  • Fairness

Graduates of the program will have translated vague concepts into tangible skills that can provide healthy social skills for the future and helping to break the cycle of abuse and violence in at-risk populations.
